Introduction

In telecommunications, the term identification friend or enemy of the so-called IFF, indicates an automatic electronic recognition system designed for command and control functions . It is a system that allows, through an interrogation, to identify a target and determine its distance from the interrogator.  It uses a transponder that listens to a query signal and then sends a response that identifies the broadcaster. IFF systems usually use radar frequencies, but other electromagnetic, radio or infrared frequencies can also be used. It allows military and civilian air traffic control interrogation systems to identify aircraft, vehicles, or forces as friendly and determine their orientation and distance from the interrogation.
